Catch a Cold and Pregnant

If you are pregnant, you can pick up viruses a little faster. A cold is one of them and can be very annoying, especially if you have to cough. Often you will eventually get belly pain due to coughing. You usually sleep worse, and that is already a problem with pregnant women.

I only have tips to fight your cold naturally;

1 Sleep

Sleep is one of the most important things you need as a pregnant woman. By taking it easy and taking enough time for yourself, your body can fight the cold. A quick nap during the day also helps enormously.

2 Sleeping position

It is easier to breathe through a blocked nose if you raise your head slightly. Use an extra cushion (under your mattress) or raise your mattress a little.

3 A nasal spray of saline

For a stuffy nose, use the nasal spray that contains only saline. You can use it for a longer period. You can also sniff water.

4 Zinc shortens colds

Zinc is a mineral that also has a positive influence on the immune system. The most available form of zinc comes from proteins such as meat, eggs, poultry, seafood (especially oysters) and liver. For vegetarians, beans, nuts (for example, almonds, peanuts and pecans), seeds (such as sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds), oats, brown rice, wheat germ, pumpkin, seaweed and peas are good sources. Research shows that zinc can shorten the length of a cold by almost half.

5  Steaming

Fill a container with hot water and hangover it with a towel over your head. This way, snot and mucus will come loose quickly. Do this three times a day

6  Keep drinking enough

It is essential to keep drinking well. Keep your fluid balance up to date by drinking enough tea, juice or water (watch out with herbal teas and caffeine). An advantage: drinking a lot also helps with a sore throat! Preferably water.

7  Drinks with a soothing effect

Take a cup of tea or hot water with honey and fresh lemon juice. Good for a sore throat, and vitamin C is also good for the immune system. Chamomile tea is anti-bacterial and soothing. Preferably from dried chamomile and no ready-made bags. You can also gargle with cooled chamomile tea.

8  Menthol ointment

Apply a small amount of menthol ointment on your chest, forehead and under your nose. This will relieve your cold. The packaging states how much and how often you can use it. Menthol under the nose clears the airways and menthol on the chest works well against the cough.

9  Gorge with saltwater

Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of salt in 0.2 litres of warm water. Use this to reduce the sore throat and cough.

10  Onion next to your bed

Cut an onion in half and place it on your bedside table.

11 Chicken soup

Take a cup of chicken soup. It seems to work against a cold, and it is nice too! But how does that work? Chicken meat contains a protein with the amino acid cysteine. This sulfur-containing amino acid acts as an antioxidant and removes toxins from the body. It helps maintain the immune system. Cysteine ​​also dilutes mucus, making it easier to cough up or leave the body through the nose. Viruses are removed quickly with the slime. Preferably, of course, the homemade chicken soup. It works best.

12  Throat pastilles

You can buy throat pastilles in different flavours at the drugstore. Menthol is good with a stuffy nose.

 13  A warm bath or hot shower

The moist environment is good for your nose. The steam from the shower also loosens the muscles in the head, neck and chest.

 14  Provide more vitamin C                                                                             

Vitamin C is a natural way to boost your resistance and is found in all citrus fruits, strawberries, melon, kiwi, tomato, broccoli and spinach. During your cold, you can consider a good supplement for Vit C. You  take 4000 mg pro day.   In the winter months, extra vit C is wise anyway. With disease stress, with smokers from people exposed to chemicals, this should be even more.  If you want to extract the amount from oranges: This obtained about 50 to 100 mg per orange. Then you need one box per day. Then you better get a good vitamin C at home. Also understand why vitamin pills from cheaper drug stores and supermarkets do not have much effect. Most of the time, they contain 100 mg per palette.

15  Go to the doctor
